Celene Yohemas is a freelance percussionist, drummer, composer and educator. Diverse, unique, and charismatic, Celene captures the audience with her unexpected power. She has performed on drum set in many styles including rock/blues/soul with bluessmyth, hard rock with Tabitha, rock, blues and country with The Rebel Ritas, blues with the Brian McCullough Trio, country with Rooster in a Henhouse, and jazz with Theresa Wasden to name a few. She can be found on recordings with bluessmyth (Sola Gratia 2009), The Love Bullies (When I Get Through with You, 2007), Tabitha (2008), Theresa Wasden (2006), and Deliria (2002). As a percussionist and composer she has had success on theatre stages as sound designer and performer for Alberta Theatre Projects (Picking Up Chekhov 2006) and won a Betty Mitchel Award for Best Sound Design with Green Fools Theatre’s production of Dancing On Water (2005).

Classically trained at the University of Calgary, Celene is a sought after clinician. Her effective rapport with students helps achieve immediate results in reading and interpreting music as well as reinforcing good technique on multiple percussion instruments. She has been teaching since 1996 as a private instructor, clinican, and percussion ensemble coach. She worked with the Royal Canadian Air Cadet League as an instructor from 1997 – 2006, and currently works as a part of the music teams of Strathcona Tweedsmuir School, St. Francis High School, and Centennial High School.
